A Family Tradition
The first doors produced by the duo who started Legend Door Manufacturing may have been built in 2021 but the family heritage in garage doors that brought this new company into existence runs much deeper. In 1966, Cletus L. Hobbs founded Hobbs Door Co. in Chesapeake, VA and manufactured its own now discontinued line of Cedarcraft branded garage doors that catered to the cedar siding and flush cedar aesthetic requirements of the 1980's
In recent years, the declining quality and availability of stile and rail wood garage doors led to the formation of Legend Door Manufacturing. As we took out 60 and 7o year old wood doors that had outlived many of their younger counterparts, we started cutting them apart to see what made them last. Mortise and tenon construction, stable panel materials, clear stiles and rails made from quality lumber and thoughtful fastener placement were the consistent traits found in these older doors.
We took that information and made it our goal to re-introduce these long lasting, doors. our goal is that one day, each door we build will one day be known as "that door that's been there forever".
